The recent announcement that Blackboard will acquire ANGEL Learning has sparked a buzz in academic circles. Many in the higher education community are concerned, and they want to understand what this might mean to the community generally and their institution specifically. As Blackboard continues to reduce choice through acquisition and litigation, what will the future bring? And what are the viable alternatives to Blackboard?

You've probably heard about Sakai, the open-source learning environment made by educators, for educators.  You may have questions: Who is using Sakai? What does it take to support an open-source system? Is Sakai the right choice for my campus?  We want to answer these questions for you.

Join your peers to learn more about the Sakai Collaborative Learning  Environment and to discuss how California colleges and universities are using open-source learning management systems to save money and to innovate with online learning, collaboration and portfolios.

Local implementers from Cerritos and Berkeley will present, sharing why they chose Sakai, what it took to migrate, and how their team supports an open-source system. You’ll also hear from rSmart, a Sakai Commercial Affiliate, about the low cost of Sakai commercial support, hosting, and integration with your technology systems. The presenters will help you understand how institutions of any size can procure cost-effective support and hosting for Sakai, and you will walk away with an easy, no-cost opportunity to pilot Sakai on your campus.
