Congratulations; you’ve made the commitment to an open campus by considering Sakai for your academic initiatives. More and more, institutions are turning to cost-effective open-source solutions like Sakai to solve a whole host of campus-wide initiatives; from course management to email to financial systems – and just about everything in between.
But choosing an open-source solution can be a daunting decision. Does open source mean that you are on your own? What if there are features you would like to add to better suit your user’s needs? Do you need a large internal IT staff to implement it? And once it’s running who will manage updates, changes and new releases to the community software?
