A word with many meanings.
It can mean allowing access or exposing to view. It can denote frankness, an absence of deception, availability. It is a word that has always been of great importance to leaders, and yet today the forces of openness are redefining our societies and our models for innovation.
Recent technology innovations have created an unprecedented level of global connectedness that eliminates geographic and social boundaries. Questions and problems are “crowd-sourced” allowing those with ideas to freely step forward. Open source technology models allow people who have never met to make small contributions to larger, more powerful systems. Ideas, experiences, and innovations can be broadly published increasing opportunities for collaboration and refinement.
New, open models are changing educational material development, textbook creation, scholarly publishing, and the technologies that support teaching and learning.
Open can also mean not finally settled, still admitting debate. How will open change the world of education? How will you?

How is technology both driving and supporting the change to open? How is this shift creating new models for collaboration that have the potential to improve educational quality, access, and cost?
