CLE Service Pack 2.6.4 Released

Earlier this month, we released the fourth service pack for the rSmart Sakai CLE 2.6. This release contains more than ninety bug fixes and many enhancements, including integrations with several external third-party solutions:

• Integration with the open source online video platform Kaltura.
   
• iRubric for Sakai, a suite of rubric tools developed by RCampus.
   
• Integration with the Turning Technologies student response (clicker) system.

This release also includes the iTunes U tool, which is part of the 2.7 release of the rSmart Sakai CLE. Contributed by members of the Sakai community, this tool provides integration with the iTunes U service from Apple. The tool gives users access to their institution’s iTunes U account from within the CLE, enabling instructors to add and manage, and students view, course content.
 
Keep in mind that these integrations are not part of the default, out-of-the-box (OOTB) configuration of the rSmart Sakai CLE, and will require accounts with the appropriate third-party vendors.

The 2.6.4 service pack also includes many important security fixes, as well as several other improvements:

• A variety of enhancements for Student Information System (SIS) integration will help eliminate database problems, streamline the process for creating sites and and adding users, and improve integration between the SIS and an LDAP provider.
   
• The rich text editor (FCK Editor) now includes a “full screen editor” and “preview” function.
   
• Gradebook2 has been upgraded to version 1.3.0, which includes a "weight items by points" option when adding a weighted category, as well as an improved interface for importing grades.

If you are a hosted CLE client, our support staff will be in contact with you to apply the service pack to your instance. If rSmart does not maintain your instance, you may download the release from RSN at your convenience.
