Supporting Open Source Software for Education
This month, the Kuali Coeus project reached an important milestone with the release of Kuali Coeus 2.0. The release adds considerable functionality to Kuali Coeus, a comprehensive open source solution for research administration.
At many schools, the awards process can often be cumbersome and inefficient, involving ad hoc combinations of manual entries, paper trails, and various third-party software applications. Kuali Coeus now represents a viable and cost-effective alternative.
This release includes a new Awards module, which helps schools create and maintain sponsored awards by providing support for all aspects of the awards process—from award budgets and reporting requirements to the complexities of parent/child hierarchies. The release also expands functionality for the Proposal Development module, giving schools a powerful set of tools for managing proposal submissions to Grants.gov.
Several institutions in the Kuali community plan to adopt this latest version of Kuali Coeus. Kuali partner schools who are scheduled to start implementations of Kuali Coeus 2.0 this year include the following:
Lori Ann Schultz is Assistant Director, Sponsored Projects Services at the University of Arizona, which will start with the implementation of the Awards and Institute Proposal modules. "With Kuali Coeus 2.0, the University of Arizona will be able to replace an aging legacy system for data entry of proposals and awards," she says. "We look forward to the many features Kuali Coeus will give us – workflow, enhanced ability to capture critical contracts and grants data, and integration between pre-award and post-award functions. We are very grateful for the hard work of the KC team!"
rSmart would like to congratulate the many members of the Kuali community whose contributions made this release possible. Job well done!
