New and Improved Site Statistics Tool

You'll find some major improvements to the Site Statistics tool with our next service pack, CLE 2.6.2, due to be released at the end of October. The tool has been completely redesigned, boasting a new interface and greatly expanded reporting capabilities.

The new look will be readily apparent on the Overview page, where the CLE displays summaries of information that instructors have most frequently requested seeing. In addition to the "Visits" and "Activity" sections, the Overview now includes a "Resources" section. You can expand or collapse the sections with one click. Along with bar graphs and pie charts, each section provides a set of most-needed statistics, and each offers a variety of information that can be presented in several ways:

  • For "Visits," you may group the summary by user or date, and results may be filtered by time period and user role; summary statistics include the number of enrolled users for a site, as well as how many enrolled users did--and did not--visit.
  • The "Activity" summary may also be grouped by user, in addition to date or tool, and results may be filtered by time period, user role, and tool; summary information includes the most active tool and the most active user.
  • "Resources" may be grouped by date, user, or resource, and results may be filtered by time period, user role, and action; summary information includes which file was opened the most and which user opened the most files.

Handy tabs and dropdown menus make it easy to group and filter information, and time period filters include "since site creation." Each summary section also includes a "View complete report" link, which takes you to a predefined report that you may print or export as an XLS, CSV, or PDF file.

Of course, you may still generate your own reports--and you'll find more options for how the reports are defined and presented. You may also save reports, with the CLE displaying them as links on the Reports page.

Site Statistics now supports reporting for more tools--Blogger, Email Archive, Lessons, News, and the Site Statistics tool itself. If you're a system admin, you'll find other useful features. You may create predefined reports that will be available on all sites, for example, and you may also create admin reports for all sites.

We look forward to learning about your experiences with this improved and expanded tool!
