Position Summary

The Education Consultant plays a vital role on the Services & Support team by providing information and expert assistance to customers to ensure their success with the rSmart Sakai Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE)—rSmart’s course management system. Prior to and during implementation, this individual performs a needs analysis and delivers recommendations to customers and rSmart staff. This individual is also responsible for fostering client understanding of the capabilities, features, and use of CLE tools by conducting on-site and remote training and providing ongoing advice to members of the academic community. This individual also trains counterparts in rSmart’s channel partners, contributes to the development of user and in-house documentation, provides a functional perspective during the development process, and supports sales.  This individual demonstrates both a passion for customer service and a firm grasp of business realities, along with well-developed leadership, collaboration, and presentation skills. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following are common elements of this position. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Schedule, lead and conduct on-site configuration and training sessions for clients implementing the rSmart Sakai CLE.
  • Document and implement configuration requests to ensure a successful Sakai CLE implementation
  • Work with rSmart Technical Consultants, QA Engineers and Developers to gather information necessary to respond to customer requests.
  • Support hosted and local implementations of the rSmart Sakai CLE. Spend a significant time with rSmart support analysts and respond to/resolve assigned Tier 2 tickets in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the Sakai community by monitoring discussion lists for valuable information and sales leads, presenting at conferences and offering advice to Sakai users
  • Assist sales by referring leads, facilitating sales demonstrations (on-site and via web seminar), answering deep functional questions and performing testing and research on current and future Sakai functionality.
  • Assist marketing by writing content for and delivering public web seminars.
  • Manage Sakai CLE configuration & training documentation.
  • Write knowledgebase articles, training tutorials, and content for instructional videos. Maintain current documentation.
  • Actively anticipate needs and assume new responsibilities when necessary.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to address ongoing functional related issues, needs and changes for individual clients and partners.
  • Contribute to the ongoing product development of the Sakai CLE. Develop, write, communicate, publish and test requirements for new functionality.
  • Regularly solicit feedback from customers to improve client service and share that feedback internally.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current releases, version changes, and enhancements to the CLE.
  • Participate in interdepartmental meetings, teams, and projects in order to ensure effective delivery of competitive levels of service both internally and via rSmart partners.

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree by an accredited university
  • Software implementation experience
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • 3-5 years experience working with software installation and configuration
  • Able to work with minimal direction, work projects concurrently and multitask
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Leadership skills, proactive nature and position attitude
  • Ability to travel 50-70% for 3-5 day client visits
  • Ability to work with very little supervision

Preferred

  • 3-5 years teaching or training experience
  • Experience working in higher education in on-line learning, instructional design, faculty support or related area
  • Experience with LMS migrations or other online learning systems
  • Experience with Sakai
