Proof of Concept for Kuali Coeus

With the 2.0 release, Kuali Coeus (KC) now offers a flexible, integrated system that can support all aspects of research administration. But you may be concerned about how to evaluate this open source system. Given the unique complexities of research administration processes at your institution, how can you be sure that Kuali Coeus is the best fit—and that you fully understand the migration challenges that will be involved?       

To help institutions considering Kuali Coeus, we’ve developed the rSmart Kuali Coeus Proof of Concept (POC). With this powerful resource, your institution’s stakeholders can evaluate Kuali Coeus—with your own data and business processes in a hosted environment—before committing to implementation.

During the POC process, users at your institution will use KC to recreate existing proposals for institutional approval and sponsor submission. Proposals eligible for submission to Grants.gov will be transmitted to the Grants.gov test server. In addition, users will have the opportunity to generate awards in KC, using data contained in current institutional awards or from proposals created in KC’s Proposal Development module.

The rSmart team will involve all key departments, helping them to:


• Learn the basic functionality of Kuali Coeus, as well as its potential integration with the Kuali Financial System and other enterprise-level financial solutions.
   
• Understand the technologies that underpin Kuali Coeus.
   
• Use KC to integrate their institution’s proposal development and award management processes—both paper-driven and electronic—into a more efficient electronic workflow.
   
• Manipulate data in a real-world environment.
   
• Increase the predictability of a subsequent KC implementation.

Your institution’s stakeholders develop a thorough understanding of the scope involved for implementing Kuali Coeus. Users also get the chance to work with rSmart’s experts as they explore the many advantages of KC, such as creating templates from existing proposals, and establishing an integration with Grants.gov that allows easy searching for grant opportunities and submissions of related proposals. 

Every institution will have a different timeframe for completing the POC. But with limited staff involvement, rSmart can quickly deploy a test version of Kuali Coeus so users experience the advantages that KC provides.
