University of California-Berkeley replaces Blackboard with Sakai for their campus this fall
University of California (UC) Berkeley officially launched its new release of bSpace for the fall, 2007. Moving from Sakai version 2.1.2 to the newest version, Sakai 2.4 x, will be a huge improvement for users. After this point, UC Berkeley intends to be as aligned with the 2.4.x branch as soon as possible. In addition to the features included in the 2.4.x branch, the University is including Indiana University's forum tool, Boston University's mailtool, and the University of Capetown's poll tool. Finally, the University also has a fresh face, with a vastly improved skin, which not only looks good, but greatly assists users navigating Sakai.
As of July 31st, UC Berkeley will no longer host or support courses in either Blackboard or WebCT, making Sakai the sole enterprise LMS on the Berkeley campus.
"Thanks to all of you [in the Sakai community] for your outstanding dedication and work on Sakai. I can say with absolute confidence that the power of community source has been realized." said Mara Hancock, ETS Associate Director of Learning Systems for UC Berkeley.
