Kapiolani Community College General Education Portfolio

Portfolio Type:
Teaching & Learning
KCC General Education Portfolio Example

The Teaching and Learning portfolio depicted here was initially designed by Kapiolani Community College for use in their General Education program. The goals of the portfolio were to: Assess student learning according to general education standards, promote the use of general education in disciplinary programs, and support ongoing educational processes. Students and faculty in the General Education community participated along with a few other disciplinary groups.

The portfolio was designed to: guide students in creating and submitting portfolio-worthy evidence and enable them to link evidence of their learning to standards, outcomes, and objectives identified by faculty in the college's General Education track.

Kapiolani designed forms to capture student evidence, reflection and faculty evaluations. They developed a matrix with learning outcomes along one axis and progressive steps for meeting these along another. They designed a portfolio template for use with the matrix and an optional report to capture information on student use of the matrix as an evaluative tool.
