rSmart Sakai CLE Portfolio Sites
Demand for web-based portfolios has grown rapidly in the past 5 years, as institutions are increasingly called upon to demonstrate and account for student learning outcomes. rSmart has anticipated this demand by designing portfolio sites within our collaborative learning environment.
Portfolio sites contain a suite of web-based tools that allow users to store, organize and present digital artifacts representing evidence of their teaching, learning or institutional achievement. Our suite of portfolio tools is designed to facilitate the creation of portfolios for self-presentation, reflection, teaching and learning as well as course, program and institutional assessment.
By collecting, selecting and presenting subsets of their work, students can create portfolios that showcase coursework, professional experience, academic competency or simply self-expression. Instructors can guide students in their creation of portfolios by designing educational scaffolds that engage them in reflection upon learning in relation to a set of educational outcomes or professional standards. Administrators can use the system as a decision-making and reporting tool. Configured and customized to align with institutional goals and objectives, portfolio sites collect real evidence of teaching and learning that can be correlated with and assessed against course, program, department, and institutional objectives.
For individual students, instructors or institutions, portfolio sites provide a convenient and accessible place to integrate knowledge, develop understanding, demonstrate competency, and align mission.
Portfolio Sites Enable Users To:
- Collect multi-media resources that represent learning, accomplishments and experiences over time
- Reflect on work in relation to sets of curricular, co-curricular or personal standards and goals
- Integrate knowledge gained across the curriculum
- Demonstrate understanding of learning goals
- Present subsets of work to diverse audiences across multiple contexts
- Guide student reflection on learning goals
- Conduct formative and summative assessment
