Sakai Overview
The rSmart Sakai
Collaboration and Learning Environment (CLE) is the company's fully
packaged, tested and supported distribution of the open source Sakai
software. Similar to the way RedHatTM distributes and supports the
LinuxTM operating system, rSmart distributes and supports Sakai. The CLE
provides a feature rich, fully scalable, enterprise ready software
application that is unique in its ability to support teaching and
learning, project collaboration, group interaction and ePortfolios.
The rSmart Sakai CLE comes preconfigured to support different types of online group sites, including: course sites, project sites, and portfolio sites. Each site type contains a unique selection of roles and tools, designed to facilitate group interaction in the designated context. In addition, users have their own personal workspace in which to collect and organize their resources, maintain a personal calendar, web page or blog, and view aggregate information across all their group sites.

Each user in the rSmart Sakai CLE gets his/her own personal workspace site. This personal space is used to manage account settings, search for joinable course, project or portfolio sites, store documents for editing and sharing with others, search other user profiles and view upcoming events and announcements. |
Use course sites in the rSmart Sakai CLE to teach online courses, facilitate online training, or to supplement courses you're already teaching in the classroom. |
Use project sites in the rSmart Sakai CLE to collaborate with fellow instructors, target communications toward groups of users at your institution, or encourage students to engage in group projects, clubs, organizations or extracurricular activities using the rSmart Sakai CLE. |
Portfolio sites contain a suite of web-based tools that allow users to store, organize and present digital artifacts representing evidence of their teaching, learning or institutional achievement. Sakai's suite of portfolio tools is designed to facilitate the creation of portfolios for self-presentation, reflection, teaching and learning as well as course, program and institutional assessment. |
