I admit I've been lurking in a very slackernly manner in all the discussions in the Sakai community about content authoring, 3akai, UX, K2, Sakai NG and other unpronounceables, so I'm sorry if all this is a day late and a dollar short. Feel free to ignore me if you're part of Sakai and are way too far gone for any more input. After all, these are just thought experiments ;) If you're not part of Sakai, you might learn something about Drupal at least, so it may well be worth your time.

Several key Drupal community members have gathered together with some others to form Acquia, a new commercial firm that hopes to sell subscriptions to Drupal a la RedHat's linux distros. Acquia has already generated $7 million in funding.

We've long been maintaining that open source technologies are in wide—and often unrecognized—use in many organizations. Now we have an initiative and a tool to help demonstrate that claim with real numbers.

After 5 years as Portland State's Director for Web Communications, I've moved on to work for The rSmart Group, a commercial provider of open source technologies working mostly in the education sector with Sakai, OSP and Kuali.
