Cost Comparison vs. Proprietary LMS

Are you experiencing your own economic crisis on campus? If you are, rSmart may be able to help. Switching from your expensive proprietary LMS to our fully supported open source Sakai can save you a lot of money.

Don't worry-we're not going to tell you that open source software like Sakai is free. That was last year's misconception, and it was a pretty common one. Even though there are no license fees for Sakai, there are ongoing costs for support and maintenance. These costs can be all over the map, so a debate has arisen about whether using open source really saves any money at all. We're here to show you that it can.

A Letter to U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services: Your Action is Needed

rSmart is asking our community to read the letter to the House and Senate Appropriations Committees regarding the language included in Section 124 of the House Labor, Health and Human Service, Education and Related Agencies Subcommittee's draft Fiscal Year 2012 budget for the U.S. Department of Labor. This language may compromise our ability to ensure that all students have affordable access to the highest quality educational resources and tools. Negotiations over this provision and the broader budget are expected to wrap up over the next few days, so any reinforcing grassroots outreach we can generate to Chairman Rehberg's office (the source of the offending language in Section 124) would be welcome.
